Shakespeare’s Globe Hansel and Gretel

29 November 2024 to 5 January 2025 Globe Theatre

A beautiful new version of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.

‘A road made of bits of bread, says she? Yes, a road, and a road we can eat – follow me!’

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Hansel and Gretel, as a new version of The Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage transforms the Globe Theatre with poetry, songs and hope this winter.

In the rubble of their war-torn village, the woodcutting dad and the breadmaking mum decide that the only option to give their children a safer life is to abandon them – in the woods. Left to fend for themselves, Hansel and Gretel’s plans to find their way home get side-tracked  – quite literally – by a trail of treats too good to resist and a sweet old lady with a plan of her own…

Filled with music, magic, songs and a sprinkling of hope, this is a delicious treat, perfect for everyone aged 5+. Directed by Nick Bagnall (Love’s Labour’s LostThe Two Gentlemen of Verona, Globe).
