The Royal Exchange’s summer comedy The Importance of Being Earnest extends for an extra week!

Loved by audiences and critics, we are extending this summer comedy for an extra week! This includes 3 extra matinee performances (Tues, Thurs & Sat), and 5 additional evening shows!

This timeless tale of identity, opulence and sharp-tongued wit follows the lives of the rich and ridiculous, all looking for something to do, someone to love and somewhere to belong.

For Jack and Algernon, being young and rich isn’t easy. In fact, being swathed in luxury is, well…depressing. Tired of the never-ending soirees and penthouse shindigs, they escape their anxious existence (and Lady Bracknell) in the pursuit of love, real love, like, proper adult, IRL love, all under the guise of the ever-enigmatic Ernest.

But love isn’t as easy as it seems. After all, Cecily and Gwendolen have standards, not to mention a peculiar passion for the name of Ernest…

The brilliant cast features Parth Thakerar as Algernon Moncrieff, Robin Morrissey as Jack Worthing, Phoebe Pryce as Gwendolen Fairfax, Rumi Sutton as Cecily Cardew, Abigail Cruttenden as Lady Bracknell, Ian Bartholemew as Chasuble, Emma Cunniffe as Miss Prism and James Quinn as Lane/Merriman.

The creative team for includes Designer Eleanor Bull, Lighting Designer Johanna Town, Sound Designer Sam Glossop, Movement & Intimacy Director Sundeep Saini, Assistant Director and Recipient of the Hodgkiss Director Award Oliver Hurst, Production Manager Jacqui Leigh and Casting Director Amy Blair.
