Adored by generations and wrapped in nostalgia The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is considered to be one of the most classic romantic stories of all time.
With producers on board and the writing and composer team now in place, the star studded, award-winning cast has now also been announced for the workshop of new musical The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, an adaptation from acclaimed romantic-fantasy novel.
Captain Gregg will be brought to life by Obioma Ugoala who originated Kristoff in Theatre Royal Drury Lane’s Frozen as well as originating George Washington in Hamilton. Olivier award and Grammy award nominated Victoria Hamilton-Barritt (Cinderella, Murder Ballad) plays Martha and Olivier award nominated Sharif Afifi (The Band’s Visit, Hadestown) plays Miles.
The workshop precedes a full stage production in 2025. The cast is comprised of iAndrea Bianchi (Smart Blonde, 59E59th, Curvy Widow, Westside Arts, Being Audrey, Transport Group) who will play Eva, alongside Patrick Clancy (Dick Turpin, Lyric Theatre, Young Frankenstein, Garrick Theatre, Florence Darrington, Charing Cross Theatre) as Mr. Coombe. Connor Ewing (The Phantom Of The Opera, UK Tour, Nativity! The Musical, UK Tour/Hammersmith Apollo, Oklahoma!, Gordon Craig Theatre/Grange Park Opera) will take on the role of Cyril Muir with Rowan Macpherson (Babies, The Other Palace, London, The Last Five Years, Carrie, Spring Awakening, Leeds University) as Anna Muir.
Carmel Dean (composer of Renascence and Well-Behaved Women; music supervisor/director and/or arranger for Broadway’s The Notebook, Funny Girl (revival), If/Then, American Idiot, Spelling Bee; upcoming West End Clueless) has written the music and lyrics with direction from Kenneth Hoyt (The Blue Hour of Natalie Barney, Arcola; The Sea Plays, Old Vic Tunnels, Founder and Artistic Director Provincetown REP).
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is a timeless ghost-infused romance between newly widowed Lucy Muir and the ghost of Daniel Gregg, a sea captain. Through this uncommon companionship, Mrs. Muir learns to find liberation from her grief and loneliness, showcasing the boundless nature of true love, and its ability to transcend this life and beyond.
The show is adapted from the original novel of The Ghost and Mrs Muir that was written by Josephine Leslie in 1945. She wrote under the pseudonym R.A Dick, taking the initials from her sea captain father Robert Abercromby. The story was an immediate sensation and is widely considered to be one of the most classic love stories of all time.
