We're heading Eastbound…..
Eastbound marks the opening of Sadler’s Wells East in Stratford, celebrating the rhythms and people that bring East London to life. A collaboration between Choreographer Kloé Dean and Director Sarah Vaughan-Jones, Eastbound follows dancer Malachi Welch as he races to the new venue, journeying through Stratford Outdoor Market, corner shops, bus stops and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. En route he meets over 50 people from East London dance groups – Lister School, Langdon Park School, Artistry Youth Dance and Hibiscus Community Centre – who all join us on our journey eastbound.
"Eastbound has been a true passion project for me over the past year, as I’ve long wanted the opportunity to create a community-driven film. It’s an honour to have made a film that marks the opening of the new Sadler’s Wells venue in Stratford, involving so many local people and places that bring the area to life. I’m grateful to have directed the film alongside the talented choreographer Kloé Dean, and to have had such an incredible team who have brought this vision to life." - Sarah Vaughan-Jones, Director

Watch the latest film from the Rose Choreographic School
Optics is a contemporary South Asian dance work that draws upon Indian classical rhythms, shapes, and geometries. Created by dance artist and anthropologist Anjana Bala alongside talented collaborators, the film uses optics as a metaphor for visibility, exploring how we pursue it and the emotional consequences it entails. This is the first dance film from the Rose Choreographic School cohort, who are based at Sadler's Wells East, providing dancers with facilities and funding for individual research projects.
