ICA announces its January-March 2025 programme highlights.

The ICA’s January-March 2025 programme invites an exploration of contemporary culture, spanning exhibitions, cinema, live performances, and thought-provoking dialogues and  engagement. This season captures the ICA’s commitment to fostering experimental  practices, nurturing new talent and engaging audiences with the most vital ideas shaping  our times. 

Highlights

New Contemporaries (15 January – 23 March 2025)

Marking its 75th year, this exhibition showcases 35 emerging and early-career artists. The works explore themes like environmental cycles, fragmented memories, and the digital world. Highlights include New Contemporaries Live (1 February), offering artists the chance to showcase new ideas through live performances; Ballet for Non-Dancers (1 February), an inventive movement workshop by Mya Cavner and Edith Liben and two New Contemporaries Film Club screenings (19 and 26 February). The programme also features an exhibition tour (6 March) led by ICA curators, a participatory making session with Young New Contemporaries (15 March) and A Vision for Artists (15 March), convened by artist and educator Elle Reynolds. The ICA will feature the first UK solo exhibition by Nora Turato, an artist known for her incisive exploration of  language and media. 

Films 

  • Long Takes: Spectres: The Cinema of Jacques Rivette (20 February - 31 May 2025): This extensive retrospective explores Jacques Rivette’s iconic and lesser-known films. 
  • Off-Circuit (ongoing): A continuing series spotlighting new films that expand the possibilities of the medium and provide a vision for its future 
  • London Short Film Festival (17-26 January 2025): A range of global short films in its 22nd edition.
  • Japan Foundation Touring Programme (7-16 February 2025): The UK's largest festival of Japanese cinema.
  • Kinteka Polish Film Festival (7-23 March): This edition includes a special focus on Wojciech Has. 
  • The Machine That Kills Bad People (January, March): A bi-monthly film series inspired by Cinema 16. 
  • Focus: Fatemah Motamed-Aria (March 2025): Exploring the impactful works of  Iranian actress and filmmaker Fatemah Motamed-Aria.
  • Focus: Chantal Akerman (March 2025): A tribute to one of Europe’s most influential directors.
  • In Focus: Whit Stillman (2- 4 January 2025): A special focus on the films of Whit Stillman including The Last Days of Disco.
  • Focus: Michael Snow (1-2 February 2025): A special focus on the work of Michael Snow including Wavelength and La Region Centrale.
