With Anatomy of a Fall's Messi leading the pack!

Nothing could paw-sibly be cuter than the waggy tails of the winners of the Fido Awards 2024 who were announced ahead of the Oscars on Sunday 10th March at BFI HQ in Stephen Street, attended by a pedigree audience of guests along with dozens of happy dogs and their owners.The puptacular event awards prizes for the best on screen dog performances over the past year.

Messi, the Border Collie, was pawsitively happy winning both the Best In World and Mutt Moment awards. Messi’s trainer, Lauren Martin from Paris said “Learning this news in Hollywood made his trip to the Oscars even better. Even though he was not in the running for an Oscar he could boast two Fidos trophy collars and the Palm Dog awarded at the Cannes Film Festival in May of last year”.

Royal designer Brue Oldfield was also honoured with the special FiDogManitarian award for his Jack Russell motif on Queen Camilla’s coronation gown.

The event was hosted by the founder of Palm Dog and Fido Awards, Toby Rose who was joined this year by Jean-Christophe Bouvet (aka Pierre Cadault from TV’s Emily in Paris) and screen actress Monica Dolan with her pet husky, Velma, dressed to pawfection in Wonder Woman attire.

  • Mutt Moment - Winner: Anatomy of a Fall  (dir. Justine Triet) - Messi, the border collie
  • Blockbuster Bowser - Winner: The Little Mermaid (dir.  Rob Marshall) -  Max, the Old English Sheepdog
  • Comedy Canine - Winner: Poor Things  (dir. Yorgos Lanthimos)   - black standard poodle in Paris
  • Rom Com Rover -  Winner: Barbie  (dir Greta Gerwig)  - sugar white West Highland terrier
  • Historical Hound - Winner: Napoleon (dir Ridley Scott)  -  Josephine’s Pomeranian
  • Best In Year - Winner: Anatomy of a Fall  (dir. Justine Triet) - Messi, the border collie
  • FiDogManitarian Award - Winner: fashion designer Bruce Oldfied, for Camilla’s Coronation Dress emblazoned with her rescue bowsers Bluebell and Beth, both Jack Russells
