The Longest Johns - Manchester Folk Festival

21 March 2025 New Century Hall

Sea shanty sensations The Longest Johns are coming to New Century Hall as part of Manchester Folk Festival 2025’s stacked spring lineup!

In 2024, The Longest Johns became the UK’s most-streamed folk band. Now, after gracing stages worldwide, they’re bringing the 'rock ‘n’ roll of 1752' to Manchester!

For over a decade, Jonathan ‘JD’ Darley, Andy Yates, and Robbie Sattin have flown the flag for sea shanties, but in 2021, they became social media sensations when their version of the 150-year-old folk song Wellerman went viral, sparking a global sea shanty craze.

Reimagining folk classics while adding their own unique songwriting style to the mix, they keep the flame of tradition alive. Come lift your voice in song with some of the finest shantymen this country has ever produced!

Support comes from new traditional singing trio Culverake, who breathe fresh life into timeless melodies with gusto and harmonies aplenty.

Both shows are part of Manchester Folk Festival, which takes place across the Northern Quarter’s most iconic venues from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd March. Featuring Cara Dillon, Bernard Butler, Katherine Priddy and many more.
