A dynamic celebration of Schumann’s music with renowned cellist Matthew Sharp, plus the premiere of this year’s co-composition by the students of Stockport School in collaboration with James Manson
Friday 21 March 2025 7.30pm | Stockport Town Hall
We are delighted to return to Stockport Town Hall for a vibrant exploration of Schumann’s oeuvre, accompanied by the esteemed Matthew Sharp (Cello). We are also thrilled to announce the premier of Stockport School’s co-composition for this year. Working alongside James Manson (Bass), Stockport students have produced a wonderful and original composition. This project has been very generously funded by CDL, enabling the orchestra to bring music and joy into young lives.
The concert commences with Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture, a cornerstone of operatic comedy. We move on to Sinfonietta No.1 by Arnold which concludes with a jubilant display of bravura. Following, we are treated to a Musical Assortment of light tunes arranged by James Manson. We are delighted to welcome the students of Stockport School, for their new co-composition Rondo in G. Our evening of musical discovery comes to a close with Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A Minor, a vivacious and free-flowing piece to conclude our concert.
