Manchester Pride Festival brings thousands of people to the streets of Manchester each year, celebrating LGTBQ+ equality and challenging discrimination. The Festival is a ‘party as protest’ and is part of the largest LGBTQ+ liberation movement in the world. Pride has grown exponentially in its 50+ year history as a movement for queer liberation. But the fight is far from over.
Taking place from 16th - 26th August across the August Bank Holiday weekend the Manchester Pride Festival hosts a huge variety of events, including the world famous Manchester Pride Parade, the Gay Village Party, Candlelit Vigil, Youth Pride MCR, Family Pride MCR, Superbia Weekend and the Human Rights Forum.
Gay Village Party 23 August 23, 2024 - 26 August
The heart of the Manchester Pride Festival is the Gay Village Party, it's the ultimate street party and celebration of LGBTQ+ life as the sun shines down on the famous cobbled streets. It is the definition of queer joy and Manchester Pride is proud to present a diverse, unmissable line-up of LGBTQ+ performers and world-famous talent to the city for the community to enjoy! Expect a jaw-dropping performance from pop royalty Jessie J, Sugababes, Rita Ora, a phenomenal set from double Eurovision winner Loreen and Broadway musical star Keala Settle. Katy B, Chinchilla, Radio 1’s Dean McCullough, reigning Drag Race UK winner Ginger Johnson, Claire Richards from BRIT award-winning band Steps and Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton alongside a stellar line-up of local LGBTQ+ talent.
Manchester Pride Parade Saturday 24 August
The Manchester Pride Parade is the city’s biggest parade with thousands of LGBTQ+ communities and their allies marching for equality. This dazzling spectacle attracts thousands of spectators who line the streets to cheer and join the protest for LGBTQ+ equality. This joyous event is free to attend and suitable for all ages. This year’s theme is ‘Buzzin’ to be Queer - A Hive of Progress’. Drawing inspiration from Manchester’s iconic worker bee which acts as a powerful symbol of unity and the bustling energy that defines the city of Manchester.
Candlelit Vigil 26 August
The Candlelit Vigil closes the weekend with a poignant moment to reflect and remember together. Taking place in the serene surroundings of Sackville Gardens, this moment of reflection brings together LGBTQ+ communities and allies to remember those we have lost to HIV,and to stand united in the fight against the global epidemic and the persistent stigma that surrounds it.
SCENE. Manchester LGBTQIA Film & TV Festival
SCENE, is a brand new LGBTQ+ Film and TV Festival and will run from Friday 16th August to Thursday 22nd August 2024 celebrating both new and classic LGBTQ+ cinema and television. You can expect timeless queer camp films, TV shows, documentaries, feature films, previews of fresh content and shorts, along with Q&As, events, parties and more.
