This quirky venue was the brainchild of Gerald Armin, a multi-award-winning theatre producer and former musical theatre actor. Armin stumbled upon an unused railway arch in 2009 and, with the flair of a true showman, envisioned it as the perfect spot for a 100-seat theatre. Thus, a new stage was set under the rumbling trains of Waterloo East.

From its inception, Waterloo East Theatre has been a magnet for both audiences and artists. Since opening, it has hosted over 200 productions, entertaining more than 150,000 theatre-goers. The theatre’s eclectic mix of shows has garnered critical acclaim, with numerous Off West End award wins and nominations. Impressively, two new plays are currently being developed into feature films, while three productions have taken the leap across the pond to Off-Broadway seasons.

What sets Waterloo East Theatre apart is its unwavering commitment to new writing. The theatre serves as an incubator for undiscovered talent, providing a platform for both budding and established artists to take creative risks. It offers London audiences a chance to experience shows that might otherwise slip under the radar, mounting revivals and European premieres that surprise and delight.

Despite its small size, the theatre has made a big impact, cementing its reputation as a powerhouse of innovation and creativity. Whether you're a seasoned theatre enthusiast or a curious newbie, Waterloo East Theatre promises a memorable experience, bringing fresh, dynamic performances to the heart of London. So, next time you’re near Waterloo Station, keep an ear out for the trains above and the applause below.
