The smash-hit musical and winner of four Olivier Awards® including Best New Musical, The Book of Mormon, is still as popular as ever at the Prince of Wales Theatre.
The story is a ludicrous tale that takes you on a hilarious journey, The show follows a pair of Mormon boys Elder Price and Elder Cunningham sent on a mission to spread the word of Jesus Christ and the Latter-Day Saints to the people of Uganda. Friendship, diversity, sexuality, faith and culture are all explored with a comic intelligence that is thought provoking, educational, controversial and occasionally shocking. As for the swearing there is loads of it! If you don’t like the really bad words, then this isn’t for you. Sticking them in a musical just adds to the outrageousness of it all.
Visually there is so much to look at, it’s almost too much to take it all in. There really is no other production like it. It is highly offensive but incredibly funny. This news will come as no surprise to fans of South Park as the creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the ones who penned The Book of Mormon along with Robert Lopez who is the talented wit behind Avenue.
As for the music its as equally as clever and extremely catchy although you might not want to be repeating any of the lyrics in front of young children. The best songs are widely considered to be ‘I Believe’, ‘Tomorrow Is a Latter Day’, ‘All American Prophet’, ‘Spooky Mormon Hell Dream’, and ‘Baptize Me’.
Price (Blair Gibson) and Cunningham (Conner Peirson) are hugely talented and just a joy to watch, a real powerhouse comedy duo. As for stand out moments, there really are too many to mention but can guarantee that this will be the only show you will ever see Darth Vadar, Jesus, Yoda, Hitler and Genghis Khan on stage together singing and dancing.
Tickets for The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre are currently available until 14 June 2025.
