Moulin Rouge! The Musical

Poster for Moulin Rouge

Enter a world of splendour, of eye-popping excess, of glitz, grandeur and glory! A world where Bohemians and aristocrats rub elbows and revel in electrifying enchantment, Moulin Rouge! The Musical blends revelry and romance onstage like never before. Pop the champagne and prepare for the spectacular spectacular… Baz Luhrmann's revolutionary film comes to life onstage, remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza. A theatrical celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and - above all - love, Moulin Rouge! is more than a musical; it is a state of mind.

Featuring many of the iconic songs from the 2001 movie as well as new additions from Music Supervisor, Orchestrator, and Arranger, Justin Levine. Combining over 70 songs from Adele, Katy Perry, Sia, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and more to create a pop score that’s unique in musical theatre while still firmly rooted in character and storytelling. The result is a musical unlike anything else.

What Is The Show About

In 1899 in the heart of Montmartre, Paris, a young composer Christian becomes infatuated with Satine, the glamorous and enchanting star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, Satine. When their two worlds collide, they fall deeply in love, however they are met with trouble from the nightclubs host and owner, Harold Zidler and The Duke of Monroth, who believes money is the key to everything, including Satine's heart. Driven by his love, Christian teams up with his Bohemian friends (The extravagant Toulouse-Lautrec and the mesmerising tango dancer Santiago) to stage a musical spectacular to save The Moulin Rouge and win the love of Satine.

Designer Derek McLane has covered the Piccadilly Theatre’s walls in crushed red velvet, a bright neon sign dominates the stage, a working windmill spins in the royal box, and a main character makes her fabulous entrance on a rhinestone-encrusted swing that is lowered from the rafters as she sets out her stall immediately with Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend. It is ostentatious, absurd, and completely ravishing to look at.

The show is a feast for the senses. The lavishness of the sets is perfectly matched by Catherine Zuber's dazzling costumes, which are equally vibrant, provocative, and opulent making Moulin Rouge! a masterclass in maximalist production and design. It is entertainment at its best.. Expect an exceptional performance of truth, beauty, freedom and above all - love. A love that will live forever.
