Les Misérables

Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed fully-staged new production of Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables is now playing at London’s Sondheim Theatre. This brilliant new staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed “Les Mis for the 21st Century” (Huffington Post), “a reborn dream of a production” (Daily Telegraph) and “perfect theatre in a perfect theatre” (Sunday Telegraph).

Set amid the social and political struggles of 19th century France, West End favourite LES MISÉRABLES tells the story of former prisoner Jean Valjean, who is pursued for decades by his policeman nemesis, Javert. Their epic cat-and-mouse journey will take them from the French fields to the gritty Parisian sewers, amidst an enthralling story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.

Home to iconic songs such as; “I Dreamed a Dream”, “On My Own”, “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More”, “Master Of The House” and many more and seen by over 130 million people worldwide in 53 countries and in 22 languages, Les Misérables is undisputedly one of the world’s most popular musicals.

The collective talent of the whole cast is incredible with many stand out performances, from the heartfelt Fantine’s “I Dreamed a Dream” moment early on in the show, when Eponine delivers the highly poignant number “On My Own” or at the end the extremely moving scene with Jean Valjean. On a light note there is the hilarious and perfectly timed performances of Thénardier and Madame Thénardier with their chaotic songs and sly choreography. Their comical performances provide the perfect balance from the emotional scenes of loss and grief throughout the show.

Despite its title, Les Misérables is a reminder that there is hope, its a musical that inspires and uplifts and that's why it will continue to endure the world over and be one of the world’s most popular musicals.
