The Half Moon Young People’s Theatre has been delighting audiences and nurturing young talent since 1990. This plucky little venue has grown from its humble beginnings in a rented synagogue in Aldgate (part of the original Half Moon Theatre Company formed in 1972) to become the UK’s leading small-scale theatre for young people.
Operating from its base in a beautifully renovated former Limehouse Board of Works building, Half Moon offers a dazzling array of performances and programs for young people from birth to 18 (and up to 25 for disabled young people). The theatre’s mission is simple yet profound: to make high-quality theatre accessible to everyone, especially those who might feel excluded from the arts due to socio-economic status, disability, or cultural background.
The theatre's dedication to inclusivity and innovation hasn’t gone unnoticed. It’s a proud National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England and receives significant support from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, among other backers. This backing enables the Half Moon to keep ticket prices affordable and maintain its ethos of engaging those who might otherwise miss out on the transformative power of theatre.
Whether you're a local or a visitor, a child or an adult, the Half Moon Young People’s Theatre offers an enchanting escape into the world of imagination and creativity. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose, and it continues to light up the East End with its boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm. From toddlers watching their first puppet show to teenagers diving into complex dramas, there’s something for everyone.
