William's is terrific in the role, even more savage than Meryl Streep herself! She delivers the tyrant’s killer lines effortlessly with icy authority and a sultry, jazzy depth that steals every scene.
The tunes, from disco to power pop to Broadway homage, are belted out by a cast in a glitzy production by director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell that can only be described as a combination of campy glam and high-octane pop.
