This gem, designed by the renowned architect Piers Gough, opened its doors in November 2011 as part of the innovative Canada Water Library complex. Managed by Theatre Peckham, the theatre features an eclectic mix of theatre, comedy, music, and family shows.

Originally managed by The Albany, South East London’s leading performing arts venue, the Canada Water Theatre is known for its cultural diversity. The Albany’s visionary programming has set a high bar, delivering a broad range of performances from gripping plays and music gigs to enchanting poetry nights and family-friendly events.

With a capacity of 150 seats and a state-of-the-art lighting and sound suite, the Canada Water Theatre is a versatile space perfect for performances, events, and rehearsals. It offers Southwark-based creatives a platform to develop their ideas, hone their craft, and engage with the community. Theatre Peckham, taking the reins from April 2023, continues this legacy by transforming the theatre into an artist development hub. Their mission? To cultivate local talent and provide resources for artists to flourish.

Theatre Peckham’s new vision includes free research and development opportunities for local creatives, affordable rehearsal space for non-Southwark based companies, and community hub activities. This commitment to inclusivity is further bolstered by their dedication to tackling racial inequality through the Southwark Stands Together pledge.
