With live performance premieres of The Silence of the Lambs and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields (ASMF) continues its legacy of film score performance with two live film premieres this spring, bringing the music of The Silence of the Lambs and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to two of London’s most prestigious stages.

The Silence of the Lambs will be screened in synchronisation with a live performance of Howard Shore’s score, marking a world premiere as part of the inaugural London Soundtrack Festival at Barbican Hall (24 March). Shore’s music highlights the tension of this suspense-filled film starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, debuted in this performance by ASMF conducted by Ben Palmer. The performance will feature an exclusive post-show Q&A with Shore and special guests.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the release of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, ASMF will give the European premiere of the live performance of its score at the Royal Albert Hall (25 April). Anthony Gabriele conducts the orchestra in Tan Dun’s Oscar-winning score, evoking themes of power and bravery set against a landscape of changing fates in the legendary Wudang sect. The performance forms part of the Royal Albert Hall’s hugely successful Films in Concert series.

In October 2023, ASMF began celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of Milos Forman’s spell binding film Amadeus, for which the orchestra recorded the soundtrack, with a live performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Since its release, the soundtrack to Amadeus has become one of the most popular classical music recordings of all time under the baton of ASMF’s founder and artistic director, Sir Neville Marriner. The recording has sold over 6.5 million copies and received 13 gold discs to date, having reached #1 on Billboard’s Classical Albums Chart.

In returning to film concert and performance, ASMF renews its commitment to sharing joyful and inspiring performances, with these two performances celebrating the power of music and film.
