OSO launches first in-house production this April with Andrew Bovell's critically acclaimed Things I know to be True.
OSO is set to debut its first-ever in-house production this April with Andrew Bovell’s Things I Know to be True, a compelling Australian family drama about the dangers of loving too much. Running for two weeks (April 2–11), the play follows the trials of family life as seen through the eyes of four very different adult siblings as they navigate their own paths, revealing the tensions, sacrifices, and deep bonds that define their relationships with their parents.
Parents Bob and Fran have worked their fingers to the bone and with their four children grown and ready to fly the nest it might be time to relax and enjoy the roses. But the changing seasons bring home some shattering truths, leaving us asking whether it’s possible to love too much.
As beautifully touching as it is funny and bold, Things I Know to be True is a complex and intense study of the mechanics of family life. Its’ relatability across generations is one of the reasons OSO Artistic Director Lydia Sax chose to direct it: “Why stage this play in Barnes? Not only is it one of the most beautiful plays I have ever read, but I believe a deeply universal tale. Through six characters of different ages and life stages, it explores family, financial sacrifice, and the shifting tides of culture. Sax continues; “The play speaks to the losses that emerge between generations, and how love, in its many forms, has the power to both wound and heal. With insight and humanity, Andrew Bovell taps into the poetry, beauty, and tragedy of everyday life.”
First performed to critical acclaim by Frantic Assembly in 2016, this revival is created by the team behind the recent 5-star sell-out successes of The Revlon Girl and Once Upon a Bridge, including; Producer Charlie Robertson; Set and Costume Designer Tim Whatmough and Lighting and Sound Designer Jonny Danciger.
This is OSO's first in-house production and marks the start of the Theatre's growth into a major producer of Fringe Theatre.
