The Smalls Film Festival is returning to London this September for its seventeenth annual edition, showcasing the year’s finest short films at Curzon Hoxton cinema. Over the weekend of Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September, audiences can enjoy seven feature-length programmes encompassing Animation, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Music Video, and Student Film. Following its successful debut last year, the Change category joins the lineup, celebrating films that spotlight pressing global causes and the changemakers advocating for the future.
Founded by The Smalls, a global community of creatives, in 2006, the festival champions the extraordinary ability of short films to encourage new voices and enrich the art of filmmaking for all.
A vital component of the cinematic landscape, short films offer a unique platform for storytelling that is concise yet impactful. They allow filmmakers to experiment with innovative techniques and narratives without the constraints of feature-length productions, and often serve as a stepping stone for emerging talent, providing a showcase for creativity and originality that might not yet be recognised in mainstream cinema.
