The Longest Time’, by Jack Otway and Zach Zono – at Hurst Contemporary

A collaborative exhibition from two exciting young artists, exploring strained relationships of nostalgia and immediacy, the ceaseless passage of time, and the inevitability of disruptive change.

On November 7th 2024, Hurst Contemporary will open the doors to its new Percy Street location, welcoming the inaugural exhibition titled The Longest Time with new and significant work by two artists Jack Otway and Zach Zono.

Reflecting on the ephemerality of the present, times ceaseless meandering, and the intangibility of its passage, Jack Otway and Zach Zono present explorations of strained relationships between memory and time, between the now and the now-to-be.

Collaging topographic underpaintings with transparent geometries, Otway’s works are tranquil yet vibrant, minimal and sensual, utilising a measured abstraction and deceptive distortion to create vivid impressions of conflict and chaos with somnambulic flair.

Zach Zono’s work is similarly intuitive, drawing on his experience growing up in South Africa and his time later on in London, stitching the fabric of his geographical and temporal journey’s through organic forms, vivid hues, and layered textures. Drawing from the well of tensions between past and present, nostalgia and the immediate, hometown and new city, Zono’s explorations into conflict are general enough to apply to anyone, encouraging onlookers to engage with his conflict-dealings on their own terms.

The opening reception will be held from 6 - 8pm and the show will continue through to 7 January 2025.
