Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 - at KOKO

17 November 2024 KOKO

Son of Fela Kuti and tremendous bandleader in his own right, Seun Kuti and his dad's old band Egypt 80 are taking to Camden for an unforgettable night of legacy Afrobeat.

Few other Afrobeat artists have kept the spirit of Fela Kuti going. As Nigerian music morphed over the years, and as the West's interest in 70s Afrobeat waned, it has only really been in the last 10 years that the genre faced a resurgence.

But throughout that time, Seun Kuti has been keeping it alive, even when unfashionable. In the same vein as his father, his style is ruthlessly danceable, with polyrhythmic drums and an ensemble of free soloists, all coming together to produce one solid wall of sound.

With the KOKO's grand acoustics, and with the iconic Egypt 80 in tow, there's no reason to expect this evening to fall anything short of spectacular.
