Full cast announced for Nancy Netherwood’s chilling new play at Southwark Playhouse Borough.

North-East England, 1983. As a snowstorm rages outside, trainee singer Russell and his mother Maud await the arrival of a young priest, who believes Russell is a victim of possession….

Cloudburst Productions Ltd, in association with Southwark Playhouse, has announced the world premiere of Nancy Netherwood’s Radiant Boy which debuts at Southwark Playhouse Borough on 21 May and runs until 14 June, following its inclusion in the RSC’s 37 Plays competition in 2023. Júlia Levai directs this brand-new chilling play. With a soundtrack of traditional songs, North-East folk music and 80s New Wave, the show investigates faith, shame and queerness and finding connection through art.

Joining the previously announced Stuart Thompson (‘Spring Awakening’ (Almeida), ‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’ (BBC)) as Russell & Renée Lamb (The Original Cast of ‘Six’ (West End)) as Steph/The Voice are Ben Allen (Macbeth, UK tour) as Father Miller and Wendy Nottingham (The Last of the Boys, Southwark Playhouse) as Maud.

Júlia Levai said, I’m really looking forward to working with this wonderful cast on Radiant Boy. The play explores important themes like faith, identity, and connection, and I’m excited to see how the actors bring their unique energy to the characters. It’s a great opportunity to tell a story that feels both timely and personal, and I’m eager to share it with audiences.
