After four successful one-night editions, one fluid night becomes ofn lgbtqia+ film festival, a full weekend celebrating queer cinema!

Launched in September 2023, One Fluid Night (OFN) is a unique film event that combines a selection of short films screening in competition, along with the talents of singers, dancers and cabaret performers, altogether championing the many facets of life, love, resilience and identity via the lens of international LGBTQIA+ cinema.

After one year as a successful bi-monthly night at Genesis Cinema in east London, it’s time for OFN to evolve to the next level and become OFN LGBTQIA+ FILM FESTIVAL: a full weekend celebration of queer cinema, and now with the capacity to show feature films and documentaries as well as shorts. Running 15 – 17 November, this extended 5th edition is also moving to the heart of queer London, because for the first time OFN will take place throughout Soho, with film screenings at Curzon Soho and the Courthouse Hotel Cinema, plus after-parties at venues including Louche Soho and The Yard.

As well as incorporating features for the very first time, the 5th OFN will have its biggest-ever selection of short films. Altogether, 11 features and 113 shorts by and for the LGBTQIA+ community will be screened in cinema and/or online. A truly international selection, the programme represents LGBTQIA+ stories from 34 countries. As with all previous editions, the OFN awards system remains central to the event. The 5th OFN will honour queer filmmakers with the highest number of awards for LGBTQIA+ stories in Europe, with 18 categories judged by an international panel.

Jurors for this edition include Anca Vaida (BAFTA Connect member & multi-award-winning actor/director), Branko Tomovic (actor/director, recognised for his feature Vampir), Chance Sion Raize Calloway (award-winning filmmaker, & showrunner of the LGBTQIA+ series Pretty Dudes), Daisy Friedman (acclaimed filmmaker, & NewFest35 Emerging Filmmaker Award winner), David Martinez (Executive Director of the Raindance Film Festival & BAFTA voting member), Pradeep Mahadeshwar (LGBTQIA+ activist, & founder of Queer Asian Pride Ireland).

Highlights include Opening Gala WHAT A FEELING, a heartfelt and clever sapphic rom-com from Austria about two middle-aged women who refuse to be pushed to the sidelines of life, and who find a connection when their worlds collide. The English premiere of SUNFLOWER is a coming-of-age story, as a 17-year-old struggles to understand and embrace his sexuality in Melbourne’s working-class suburbs. Award-winning LIUBEN sees a young man leave his life and boyfriend in Madrid, returning to his childhood home in the Bulgarian mountains where he unexpectedly finds love with an 18-year-old Roma boy. Documentaries include FABULOUS FEMININITIES giving a glimpse into the world of burlesque performers from across the UK, WARM FILM which sees two young actors explore how LGBTI people were portrayed throughout the history of Yugoslav cinema and BREAKING TABOOS WITH LOVE which sees friends and family gather for a same-sex marriage in India, even though it is not yet legally acknowledged.

All selected films will be available online during the event days. A majority of the nominated films will be screened both in the cinema and online, but some of the nominated films will be available online only. Nominated films to be announced on 1st November.
