The first time in over 60 years that selected works of American artist Lawrence Calcagno to be exhibited.
Amar Gallery is proud to announce the exhibition Lawrence Calcagno: Redux, featuring paintings & works on paper by LGBT+ artist Lawrence Calcagno. The exhibition is transatlantic with 203 Fine Art, USA exhibiting works in their Taos, New Mexico space and Amar Gallery exhibiting works in London. This is the first time many of these works have been exhibited in London.
A student of Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still, Calcagno is listed as a member of the San Francisco Abstract Expressionists, exhibited with some of the most important New York School Ab-Ex painters, and was an influential non-representational artist of the Southwest, specifically in New Mexico as a Taos Modern.
Calcagno’s life is nothing short of remarkable and this exhibition aims to bring a master of art back to the forefront of art history.
The Amar Gallery was founded by Amar Singh who is a British-Indian LGBQT+ ally, female rights activist and philanthropist. He has been instrumental in fighting against LGBQT+ conversion therapy in India and he has campaigned for the legislation of same-sex relationships in India.
Recently opened 16th June 2024, The Amar Gallery champions minority artists often overlooked based on their gender, sex, and sexuality.
