Eunjo Lee at Goldsmiths CCA.
Eunjo Lee (b.1996, South Korea) is the latest artist to take part in CCA’s ongoing commissioning series Episodes. She will participate with a new body of work to be exhibited in 2025. Lee is an artist and filmmaker based between London and Seoul, primarily working with 3D experimental animation and video art. Within mesmeric digital realms, Lee's work employs immersive world-building to construct ecological narratives that emphasise the interconnectedness of all beings.
In Lee’s videos and films, theoretical and mythological themes are interlaced to explore life’s essence. By unearthing universal metaphors woven into the fabric of different beliefs and cultural forms, she seeks to speculatively shape a new mythology through contemporary reinterpretations of ancient narratives and archetypes. Her approach harnesses the transcendental and spiritual capabilities of 3D digital media, creating moving images, narratives, and symbols that foster a more profound and integrated connection with the Earth.
Previous work includes the series The Lullaby of the Ruins (2023-24). These haunting films follow the journey of a child mourning the ‘death’ of their stone. Staged in a dystopian future landscape potentially post environmental collapse, this world hosts human-like creatures, part rusted metal, part antlered tree, who tend to their landscape and do not have the same sense of the dividing line between human and non-human subjecthood that governs our societies today. Accompanied by a sonorous soundscape, the figures communicate in an artificial language that we can almost decipher, but that lies just beyond comprehension.
Episodes
Episodes is an ongoing series of solo presentations that cuts through the main programming at Goldsmiths CCA and provides a counterpoint to the larger-scale exhibitions. Spanning installations, screenings, publications, discursive events and new commissions, the focus of this programme is to provide an experimental platform for emergent practices.
