Jazz-rap extraordinaires Digable Planets have been rocking it for over 30 years, with wholesome raps over addictive jazzy beats, spreading their positive vibe and energy from Brooklyn to the globe.
The trio, sourced from all across America, began producing in Brooklyn in the late 80s. Alongside A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, Digable Planets did the most to advance jazz-rap and alternative rap in the early 90s which still acts as a format for hip-hop genres.
Their debut, Reachin', is continually referred to as one of the greatest of the 90s. Had Illmatic not been so successful in restoring gangsta rap to New York, the city would have belonged to Digable. Tunes like ‘Where I’m From', ‘Return of Slick’ and ‘Jimmi Diggin’ Cats' have become chill-rap standards, and even while their lyrical complexity may not have stood the test of time, their beats are relentlessly studied by hip-hop producers, attempting to replicate their singular vibe.
They don't often come to the UK; this is a special opportunity to see some of the genre's greatest minds, especially as they are known to break up frequently.
