Fuelling the imagination through the magic and wonder of puppetry.
Little Angel Theatre’s Children’s Puppet Festival returns for its second year after a successful launch in 2023 and winning a one-off Offie Award at this year’s Off West End Award Ceremony. This year’s vibrant programme will showcase a broad range of puppetry by the most exciting UK and international companies currently making theatre for young audiences. There will also be plenty of opportunities for everyone to take part, with workshops for all ages, community events, fun days for children and courses for adults to try out the craft of puppetry.
Highlights include the return of award winning artist Sam Wilde’s ('I Want my Hat Back') company Cardboard Adventures with their show ‘Boxville’ which invites audiences to an interactive build-your-own adventure and two imaginative productions that will use Little Angel’s Studio space in innovative ways: ‘Claytime’ – an interactive show introducing children to the joy of clay, with the performers taking ideas from the audience, moulding the clay into various objects and bringing them to life and ‘Under the Little Red Moon’, (Offie Award Finalist 2024) by English Touring Opera, a vibrant and sensory experience with music and movement for children under two.
There is also a ‘Monster Circus Workshop Experience’ with Georgia Hill. Georgia’s creates a unique opportunity for children to explore puppets and have a go at puppeteering! Learn about a monster mash-up of puppet styles that are used in theatre, television and carnivals, basically a monstrously fun and lively hands-on workshop! Friendship can be anywhere! Blending music with movement, puppetry, play, and mask is the non-verbal performance Moonsmile, which will immerse audiences in storytelling and creating a space for imagination to thrive.
Have you ever wondered what our feet reveal about us and our character? The Hands On: Feet workshop will look at how paying close attention to the feet of a puppet can open up exciting possibilities for performance and storytelling. Finally have you ever thought about setting sail upon the high seas with your very own pirate puppet and pirate ship! Yo ho, yo ho, now is your chance to design your ship’s flag and come up with the ultimate pirate name for your pirate puppet so they can tackle any adventure they face. Watch out for sharks and keep your telescope looking out for buried treasure – this family workshop Ahoy There! Puppet Pirates will definitely shiver your timbers!
