Caribou - at the Roundhouse

7 February 2025 Roundhouse

Veteran of all forms of dance and electronic, Caribou comes to the Roundhouse, bringing his eclectic styles and idiosyncrasies with him.

Putting a finger on Caribou has always been a fools errand. When he began as Manitoba, his debut Start Breaking My Heart combined indie blueprints with electronic habits, teetering on jungle, broken beat, IDM, but really the combinations he created were entirely unique, and utterly pure.

Further along the line, he became more known for his extremely pleasant brand of house music, loved by your parents who say they don't like house, and played by radio stations who pretend to hate dance. ‘Can’t Do Without You' was, for many Gen Zers, the first glimmer of house music on their playlists, and his immediately pre-Covid record Suddenly defined a whole era of shut-ins hopeful for the return of the outerworld, especially the track ‘Home’, which I can't believe is only 5 years old.

He has also released his more aggressive, more experimental tracks under his Daphni moniker, releasing timeless remixes that get significant airtime at festivals and beyond. ‘Veteran’ is something of an understatement.

It's a long time coming. While he's spotted at festivals sets and this, that or the other, a proper venue gig is what a musician like him deserves. Releasing his first bit of music in five years (that's how long ago 2020 was, don't forget), it also marks the first time in 3 years he's played a headline show in the capital. Making full use of the Roundhouse's barrely acoustics, expect Caribou to perfect the mix for a glorious evening of the best dance music you've ever heard.
