The Sherlock Holmes Museum

TravelHerstory.com

221B Baker Street, in sophisticated Marylebone, was the fictional address of the worlds greatest detective, brought to life in the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - no prizes for guessing his name. According to Conan Doyle’s stories Sherlock Holmes resided here between 1881 and 1904, during which time he solved each case brought to him with his penetrating mind and the help of his trusted sidekick Dr Watson.

Situated in a splendid four-storey Georgian townhouse in exactly the spot where Conan Doyle imagined Holmes living and working, The Sherlock Holmes Museum brings that Victorian, gas-lit world to life with fantastic attention to detail; every day fans from around the world are greeted at the door of 221B by a cheerful London ‘Bobby’ in traditional uniform. Theres even a blue plaque on the door to show that Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective, lived there. Once you step through the door you are transported to and immersed in the world of Sherlock Holmes, with guides in period costume to take you through the rooms, each filled with ornate furniture, books and curious instruments from the time so you can really place yourself inside the stories.

The Sherlock Holmes Museum is an absolute must for fans, whether they love the original books or the modern television series, and will entertain even the mildly curious. The museum contains the largest collection of Sherlock Holmes memorabilia anywhere in the world, and the gift shop contains everything a die-hard fan could want, from the iconic deer-stalker hats (handcrafted here in England) to puzzles, beautifully bound books and more.
