Phoenix Garden

Together.com

The last of seven community gardens in Soho, the beating heart of central London, Phoenix Garden is an award-winning community garden with a community building designed by architect Gurmeet Sian. Since 1984 this former car park turned community garden has offered  an oasis to locals (and tourists who stumble across it!) from the hustle and bustle of neighbouring Soho and Covent garden.

The space spans just half an acre and provides a green space for community gardening programmes, workshops and occasions such as weddings. The garden is maintained by local volunteers who use sustainable gardening practices to maintain the habitat for a diverse array of plants and wildlife living amongst the greenery and in the park’s small pond.

The park may take its name from the Phoenix Theatre that it sits behind, but that name also attests to the spirit of community here in Soho. An ideal place escape London’s noise to sit still or stroll along well-maintained paths, dip into Phoenix Gardens from either Stacey Street or St Giles Passage, just off Old Compton Street.
