London Fields

A large group of people gathers in a park on a sunny day, sitting on the grass and socializing. Some stand while others sit on blankets. Trees provide shade, and a tall building is visible in the background. The scene is vibrant and relaxed.

London Fields is a  31-acre park which was originally a common pasture dating back to the 16th century. The park was such a popular spot for impromtu barbecues in the summer sun that the local council had to ban the use of barbecues back in 2018 - but you you can still enjoy a picnic there, or a walk among the wildflower meadow. Hckney Council has also stated its commitment to creating more natural spaces in the under-utilised south-west area, with plans for wetland, meadow and woodland receiving a welcome boost from the £2 million Grow Back Greener Fund.

People do tend to flock here in the heat as the park boasts the London Fields Lido, a 50-meter heated outdoor swimming pool open all year round. There are also tennis courts, cricket nets, an outdoor gym, pétanque area and a designated area for playing basketball. For those who enjoy running, the park’s perimeter path is popular with joggers who could reasonably finish off a run with a cheeky pint at the popular Pub on the Park at its eastern edge, near London Fields Overground station.
