Nearly 800 acres of woodlands, meadows and open green spaces just half an hour north of central London, Hampstead Heath is famous for its open water swimming ponds. It covers over 790 acres and offers a mix of woodlands, meadows, open spaces and several ponds. There are three ponds available for open eater swimming - one solely for men, one solely for women, and one mixed.
The neoclassical villa Kenwood House, now an impressive (and free) art gallery, overlooks the heath. In addition to this, Parliament Hill is a popular spot for walkers, dog-walkers, joggers and cyclists as, at its peak, it offers stunning panoramic views of the London skyline - which also makes it a great spot for a date. There are also dedicated areas for kite flying, model boating, and fishing, as well as sports facilities including tennis courts, cricket fields, a running track, and an athletics track. Throughout the park there are paved paths suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, although some areas may be more challenging due to natural terrain.
Many families come to Hampstead Heath to enjoy playgrounds, paddling pools, and educational programs at the Hampstead Heath Education Centre. The park also hosts events throughout the year, such as guided walks, educational activities on history and wildlife, and bandstand concerts.
