Ham House and Garden

A large, historic brick mansion with tall chimneys and numerous windows standing in a well-maintained garden. The foreground features a circular driveway, lush green lawn, manicured hedges, and stone statues. The sky is partly cloudy with blue patches.

Ham House itself, as befits a Duke and Duchess, is grand and atmospheric (as befits a Duke and Duchess) and houses a vast array of artworks and beautifully-crafted cabinets and objects. Explore the exquisite interiors of this palatial stately home, including the original 1610 black and white marble floor, the grand Round Gallery (where they would entertain guests - including King Charles I himself) and the North Drawing Room, which was created by many of the same craftspeople who designed Whitehall Palace.

Beyond the house there is the Kitchen Garden with Orangery Cafe, and beyond that the Cherry Garden and extensive Plats and Wilderness areas where nature-lovers and playful children will be equally happy. From March through to November visitors can join free, volunteer-led tours of the gardens to take in and learn about the seasonal highlights.

From July 25th to September 1st (2024), Ham House hosts a Summer of Play, with four sport activity zones set up for children to compete in the Ham Games, including throwing, ball sports, racing and gymnastics! There are also special dates for outdoor theatre performances, and families are always welcome to bring a packed lunch to enjoy a picnic in the gardens or grab a bite to eat in the Orangery Cafe.

For the conservation of its interior, prams cannot be used in the house (but may be used everywhere else), and hip-carriers are available at the front door for small children.
