Finsbury Park

A serene park scene with a paved pathway winding through lush green trees and grassy areas. People are scattered along the path, sitting and strolling. The sky is partly cloudy, casting a mix of sun and shade across the landscape.

For anyone looking for a bit of peace and tranquility in North London, Finsbury Park has plentiful green space, gardens, and even a boating lake and duck pond for families to enjoy. A great and unique feature of Finsbury Park is its Parkland Walk. This linear trail is London’s largest local nature reserve, at over 4 kilometres long, and even has its own Wildlife Trail planted and maintained by local volunteers. It follows the former railway line that used to connect Finsbury Park with Alexandra Palace, and if you keep your eyes peeled you’ll see the abandoned station of Crouch End and the Highgate tunnels. Throughout Finsbury Park there is plenty of space for people to enjoy a picnic, or you have the option of the Finsbury Park Cafe or Parkside Cafe.

Finsbury Park also hosts large-scale music events and gigs. Every July the park hosts the international Wireless Festival, and there are year-round performances from top names like Nicki Minaj, Michael Bibi, Hozier and Sean Paul. As of 2023, Finsbury Park is the home of the new permanent Museum of Homelessness, a “world class creative hub that hosts performances, talks and workshops developed by people with experience of homelessness” (MuseumofHomelessness.org).

The park is is also something of a local haven for sports enthusiasts, with courts for basketball, volleyball and netball, plus an athletics track and bowls club. What’s more, it is the home of the London Mets baseball team, national championship winners for seven years running!
