Dulwich has a reputation as the perfect south London spot to bring up kids, and a massive part of that is down to Dulwich Park. Established in 1890, the park spans 72 acres and offers a mix of formal gardens, open lawns, and picturesque water features. The American Garden, with its vibrant rhododendrons and azaleas, and the serene boating lake, are perfect for leisurely outings.
Dulwich Park is ideal for family outings, with its well-equipped children's playground and the exciting duck pond. The scenic walking and cycling paths are perfect for a peaceful stroll or an invigorating bike ride, and there is a delightful café housed in a historic pavilion, where visitors can relax with refreshments while taking in the beautiful surroundings. For nature lovers, the park's varied habitats are home to a range of wildlife, making it a great spot for birdwatching. The Dulwich Clock Cafe sits right in the middle of the park, with plenty to see and do at the nearby Dulwich Picture Gallery or the Francis Peek community ventre. The park also hosts various events through the year, and every year the Dulwich Park Fair opens the Dulwich Festival with a free outdoor, family friendly event. In 2024 the fair featured Vauxhall City Farm, Punch and Judy, a fun fair and maypole dancing!
Active sporty types have access to plenty of amenities, including include tennis courts, a bowling green, and a cricket pitch. There is also an outdoor gym and a cycle hire service, and even a horse-riding school attached to the park!
