South London’s most popular park, Clapham Common is the largest urban park in the city, with 85 hectares straddling the boroughs of Wandsworth and Lambeth. As well as its large open fields, perfect for getting together with friends for a picnic or playing five-a-side, there are plenty of other interesting landscape features. There are meadows and grasslands and a network of paths, including lovely avenues lined by mature trees, plus two woodlands and three ponds that are used for fishing, model boating and wildlife conservation - so plenty to explore!
There are also plenty of amenities for families, with three cafés, two playgrounds, a paddling pool, a skatepark and the Bandstand Beds Community Garden; Clapham Common has the largest bandstand in London, which is used for a range of commercial and community events. This includes the popular programme of free summer concerts, where you can see, hear and dance to everything from Afrobeat, through pop and punk to classical music and local choirs.
